Breast cancer is the second deadly cancer for women; for more efficiency and an early detection, the biomedical field need new systems that should be safe, comfortable, and sensible. The medical field already has its methods to detect breast cancer. In this chapter, a new ultra-wide band (UWB) planar antenna is presented for microwave imaging, the antenna is designed to operate in a frequency band from 2.9-10.8GHz. The antenna was designed to be adaptable for multi-viewing imaging due to it simple form, low cost and ease to be manufactured. The simulation results of the new ultra large band antenna and a performance comparison with other UWB antennas. We also offer a circular miniature printed antenna that satisfies the UWB characteristics in terms of bandwidth and reflection coefficient. This antenna is intended for a system for detecting malignant tumors by microwave imaging. The antenna made has a patch on a FR-4 type substrate with εr = 4,3, thickness h =1.575 mm and dimensions ls = 25 mm, and ws = 25 mm. A rectangular slot is inserted on the radiating element ensuring its miniaturization. The latter is powered by a microstrip line width wm with matching impedance at 50 Ohm

Applying ANFIS Model in Decision-making of Vertical Handover between Macrocell and Femtocell Integrated Network

[EN] One of the most challenging tasks in communication networks is to maintain seamless mobility and service continuity during a vertical handover. This paper provides the case of handover decision making between femtocell and macrocell integrated network considering several input parameters, namely SINR, bandwidth and energy consumption. We have simulated and proposed a vertical handover based on adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) to achieve a goal of having an intelligent handover and to predict the best destination network. The simulation results show that the approach based on ANFIS leads to a reduction of unnecessary handovers and a minimization of the energy consumption as compared to the existing approaches.Benaatou, W.; Latif, A.; Pla, V. Vertical Handover Decision Algorithm in Heterogeneous Wireless Networks

[EN] With the recent progress in the area of cellular communication the issue of inter cells handover without dropping an ongoing connection with the base station has arisen. In this paper, the focus is on the performance of vertical handover. Various proposed interconnection architectures for vertical handover in heterogeneous networks were studied. Two different algorithms to make the decision on when and to which network perform a handover were considered. In the first of them the decision is based on the received signal strength (RSS). In the second one a fuzzy logic system that uses RSS, bandwidth, battery power and packet loss as the input parameters is proposed. The simulation results show that the algorithm based on fuzzy logic leads to a reduction of the number of handovers and a minimisation of the power consumption as compared to the first algorithm used here and the existing algorithms. This work was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness through Grants TIN2013-47272-C2-1-R and BES-2011-045551.Benaatou, W.; Latif, A.; Pla, V. Design of a Dual-Band Frequency Reconfigurable Patch Antenna Based on Characteristic Modes

[EN] A frequency reconfigurable patch antenna design based on the characteristic mode analysis is presented. The antenna presents a reconfigurable lower band and a steady band at higher frequencies. A slot is etched on the ground plane of the antenna, where two varactor diodes are placed on each side of the slot in order to tune the lower band. The first resonant frequency shifts down by varying the reverse voltage of the varactor, whereas the second operating frequency keeps stable. The proposed antenna is designed to cover WLAN bands, offering a first band operating at 2GHz and a second band ranging from 5.3GHz to 5.8GHz. A prototype has been fabricated and measurements are provided, which validate the proposed analysis, method, and design procedure. This work has been supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (Ministerio Ciencia, Innovacion y Universidades) under the project TEC2016-78028-C3-3-P.Mahlaoui, Z.; Antonino Daviu, E.; Latif, A.; Ferrando Bataller, M. [EN] In mobile communication, Vertical handover is a process when a mobile switches from one network to another without any interruption. This paper gives three different proposed types of interworking architectures were designed between WLAN, UMTS and WiMAX networks based on the quality of service (QoS). Performance and evaluation of handover based on various parameters like handover delay, received power, signal to noise ratio, throughput, Traffic sent and traffic received is done and the performance of the interworking architecture is analyzed from the simulation results using OPNET Modeller 14.5.Benaatou, W.; Latif, A.; Pla, V. SCMA Codebook Design Based on a 16 Star-QAM with MED Maximization

    No full text
The SCMA codebook design is based on star-QAM signalling constellations with operating several segmentations to generate the different user’s codebook while considering the MED maximization as the criterion design. In addition, we constructed the mapping matrix F using Progressive Edge Growth (PEG) algorithm which facilitate iterative decoding performance of the message passing algorithm (MPA). At the end, a comparison with similar studies is conducted on the MEDs of the designed codebooks

Substances of natural origin and more particularly essential oils currently represent an alternative solution in the fight for the protection of stored foodstuffs. The way to use these essential oils and the storage conditions remain the main handicap in dealing with this subject. This article develops the use of porous supports as a medium for the study of the behavior of essential oils with respect to insecticidal activities. The process relates to the fixing and/or grafting of essential oils in porous clay media in a well-defined geometric form included in the storage methods. The study of transfers of the essential oil of Cedrus atlantica in a porous clay medium in the case of desorption was made by analytical and numerical models of diffusion process, to know the behavior of the oil and to determine some physical parameters (diffusivity Dz, activation energy Ea, evaporation rate F and constant of evaporation K) which explain the mechanisms involved and to try to exploit them in parallel with the insecticidal activities against of Sitophilus granarius the main cereal pest by statistical approaches such as: design of experiments and principal component analysis
